Laser engraver grows at Sandburg Mall “We’re still here but we’re bigger now,” said co-owner Laura Cree. “It’s evolved into a full-service laser-engraving store.
Cesar Suarez, economic development director for the city of Galesburg, called Finishing Touch, “creative and innovative.” The city’s business innovation grant
program, which started in February 2009, awards grants of up to $10,000 to promising local businesses as a way to help them pursue a market opportunity,
Suarez said.
“If they’re doing something unique, different, special, filling a retail gap and trying to bring more investment to Galesburg, that’s what we like to fund,” Suarez said.
“Mike and Laura Cree are very innovative, very adaptable to the market and they demonstrated that to our advisory group,” he said. “We’re happy to see them
make the move here.”

The Galesburg Business and Technology Center (BTC) has awarded Laura and Mike Cree a $2,500 Business Innovation Grant (BIG), in
cooperation with the City of Galesburg entrepreneurship program, for the expansion of their business Laser Engraving by The Finishing
Touch
“We didn’t expect it…it was a complete surprise,” said Laura Cree, co-owner. “I’d seen things like that in the newspaper but I didn’t realize
they (BTC) give 25 percent of the grant. We were pleasantly surprised.” Cree added that the money will help them with different laser-type
applications. “We’ll be able to put more money towards a new lens for the laser, or be able to work on larger pieces, or perhaps other
equipment to grow our offerings even more,” said Cree
